Our San Diego plastic surgeon strives to provide innovative treatments that have a strong track record of success, especially when it comes to breast implants. The Ideal Implant® is one such treatment that is generating interest among patients and plastic surgeons. Here’s everything you need to know about this type of implants.
What is the Ideal Implant®?
Most patients are familiar with traditional silicone and saline breast implants. While both have their advantages, each also has shortcomings associated with the treatment and result. For example, saline-filled implants can be adjusted as they are filled during surgery, and problems such as rupture are easier to quickly detect. However, these implants tend to look firm and slightly unnatural. In contrast, silicone breast implants create a natural, teardrop shape, but detecting ruptures in the implant can be difficult, increasing the risk of leaks into surrounding tissue.
The Ideal Implant® offers a unique, hybrid breast implant for women who want the beautiful shape of a silicone implant and the security of a saline implant. This innovative approach is thanks in part to the unique inner structure of the implant. Rather than having a single yet sturdy bag, the Ideal Implant® has two nested compartments that are filled with saline. These layers are then surrounded by a unique baffle shell that restricts movement of the saline in the outer layer, allowing the implant to take on the natural appearance reminiscent of a silicone breast.
With this unique internal structure, the Ideal Implant® offers patients the figure they desire while providing the peace of mind that their implants are uniquely protected from silent rupture.
Surgery & Cost
Like traditional saline implants, the Ideal Implant® is inserted first then filled with saline. As there are two saline compartments, however, surgery time may be slightly longer than the usual one hour for a traditional breast augmentation. Similarly, Ideal Implants® are somewhat more expensive than conventional implants. However, many of the patients who have visited our San Diego office for this treatment have found the results they achieve with this breast implant option make it a worthwhile investment.
Recovery
Recovery time after Ideal Implant® treatment is not much different from recovery from traditional silicone or saline implant placement. To mitigate post-procedure discomfort, Dr. Sayed may prescribe pain relief medications and will provide you with post-treatment instructions. To make your recovery as easy as possible, we recommend finding a caregiver who can help you during the first week following surgery.
Longevity
While the Ideal Implant® is a relatively recent innovation in breast augmentation, ongoing studies show that the long-term results are promising. The structured design of the implant has been shown to reduce the risk of capsular contraction and silent rupture. Likewise, the multiple barrier approach to encapsulating the saline material and smooth surface has made Ideal Implants® less likely to ripple and distort the skin above the implant, suggesting the treatment may provide greater longevity than traditional saline prosthetics.
Final Looks
The unique structure of this hybrid implant creates a concave, dome-like shape that adapts well to the curves of the patient’s chest. The implant looks incredibly natural, avoiding the awkward height of saline implants and creating a natural point overlooked by a silicone prosthetic. Overall, patients who receive the Ideal Implant® find their new shape looks and feels very natural.
