Men

Men are turning to plastic surgery for image enhancement at an all-time high. We are living longer, have more opportunities in work, play and life in general, and live in an increasingly mobile, connected and personality-driven world. Media, personal brand building and professional exposure are as important to everyday businessmen, fathers and boyfriends as they are to kings, presidents, and celebrities. Many men are leveraging plastic surgery and cosmetic procedures to gain a competitive edge by reinforcing the vigor, energy and charisma that is important to helping them stand out among peers. Our most dedicated male patients feel their best when they look their best. There is no longer a social stigma against men getting plastic surgery, Botox®, or other procedures, and Dr. Sayed is proud to be able to offer services to patients of all genders and walks of life.

On these related pages you can learn more about common plastic surgery procedures sought after by male patients.

Gynecomastia Surgery

Gynecomastia is a potentially socially embarrassing and highly common condition, where the male breast tissue is unusually large (and may even be droopy). Many men find themselves having to wear compression shirts, or wear concealing clothing like sportcoats, sweaters and other garments in order to mask the breast fullness that ordinary polos, dress shirts and T-shirts can’t easily hide. And for many of these patients: forget about taking your shirt off at the beach. Even many otherwise very fit patients who work out regularly can develop gynecomastia, as it can be a side effect of certain medications. Dr. Sayed understands the negative emotions associated with gynecomastia and is highly skilled at improving this condition for male patients, giving them renewed confidence and comfort in their own skin.

Male Facial Cosmetic Procedures

The incidence of facelift, browlift, blepharoplasty, and Botox® and fillers among men is on the rise. While these procedures are largely performed in similar fashion in men and women, there are some gender-specific considerations that must be taken into account by the surgeon when planning. For example, male patients may have or develop a receding hairline or grow the sideburns long, which might impact the design of a facelift incision to maintain continuity of the hair. Male patients undergoing Botox® treatment often require more units of Botox® to achieve correction because of thicker muscle mass. Browlifts must consider not only the potential for male pattern baldness, but the risk of creating too feminine a brow appearance. Dr. Sayed trained with some of the most forward thinking plastic surgeons when it comes to treatment of male patients. One of his professors in his plastic surgery residency at UCSF first published the direct necklift procedure and personally taught this to Dr. Sayed, and Dr. Sayed also has a wide professional network of male colleagues in high impact industries who have turned to him for advice and treatment for cosmetic facial concerns.

Male Liposuction

Liposuction is the most commonly requested plastic surgery operation among Dr. Sayed’s male patients. Our male liposuction patients come from a wide and diverse spectrum of ethnic groups, professions, and health backgrounds. Just like with our female patients, we counsel all our male liposuction patients that lipo is not a weight loss operation, but rather is one that is designed to help imrpove the body’s contours. This is particularly common in the flanks (love handles), abdomen, chest, submental area (below the chin), and lower back in male patients. Many men who regularly exercise turn to liposuction to give them that last boost to their physique by treating troublesome areas that are hard to slim down with discliplined diet and exercise. Dr. Sayed is particularly fond of the Vaser liposuction system that helps improve the skin retraction and shaping after liposuction, and we are happy to talk about the advantages of this approach in a consultation. Male liposuction patients are also among those who most frequently use our virtual telemedicine consultation tool, as Dr. Sayed helps treat patients from all over the world!

Male Hi-Def Liposculpture (Abdominal Etching)

Hi-definition abdominal liposculpture, also known as abdominal etching, is very popular among South Florida and Southern California men, who live in climates where they are exposed to near year-round sunshine and a cosmetic-focused culture. For some patients, a little added muscle definition to the abdominal 6-pack area (the “abs”) is an important part of their self-image. A fit patient who undergoes abdominal etching is looking for that ultra highly sculpted look, and this procedure, combined with rigorous exercise and healthy eating, is part of the package. The procedure takes liposuction to another level of precision, artistry and anatomical creativity, as we work with your body’s natural muscle contours and help visually bring out the work-out beast in you!
